A fundraising campaign to install a defibrillator at the Royal British Legion Shanklin Club in Collingwood Road has raised over the £1,750 required in just 10 days.
The original suggestion for installing the Public Access Defibrillator at the club came from the Royal British Legion Shanklin member, Chrissy Brodie.
Shanklin Town Council and Shanklin Rotary Club contributed £1,000 and £250 respectively, and Legion bar person Sean Rogers completed a 32-mile sponsored walk raising a further £935. Domino’s Pizza also generously donated £250.
Mark Watson, who managed the campaign, said:
“From the original suggestion, the pandemic had delayed the project by 2 years. As soon as the campaign was started, the response was amazing. The donations came in quickly and we were able to place the order with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
“The defibrillator is part of the national defibrillator network, The Circuit, meaning the cabinet door lock code can be obtained by calling 999. This life saving piece of equipment is available 24/7 for all the people of Shanklin.
“Surplus monies raised, will be donated to the Poppy Appeal and I would like to thank everyone who has helped to get this fantastic project to where it is now”

Well done, great achievement.
Well done etc.
But surely this should have been placed
by the seafront.
How is this going to help people in trouble and drowning.
There is more than one on the seafront
Its amazing how much the councillors award them selves in pay like the 6 getting over £800.000 in wages between them and people have to do charity work to help save lives
That’s what i call a real life saving effort
