Shanklin Police Station could be reopened to the public to provide those living in The Bay with better access to policing services, it has been revealed.
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones has confirmed that she is currently exploring the possibility of reopening the front desk at Shanklin.
Although nothing is set in stone, the Commissioner says she recognises that having a visible and accessible police presence is key to tackling crime and increasing community confidence.
She also notes that residents and businesses in the Southern part of the Island need to feel supported, particularly in light of high levels of shoplifting in Sandown and Shanklin.
A survey of the building has been ordered.
PCC Donna Jones has said:
“I remain committed to listening to residents and business owners on the Isle of Wight to ensure the best possible policing service. If reopening the Shanklin front desk proves to be the right solution, I will work to make it happen.”
It was back in October that Ryde Police Station reopened its front desk after more than 10 years, with a policing presence introduced to the High Street in Cowes back last January.
There is also a front desk available at Newport Police Station.
That would be very welcome im sure
living in the bay..is that to sort out all the low life scum that’s within it..
Great idea, back in the good old days police stations were
open 24/7 and Bbobbies walked the beat.
Let’s hope going forward the police start tackling
speeding on the island and vehicles parking along
Regent Street outside the takeaways.
