A new toilet block at Post Office Lane in Newport has been seriously vandalised, forcing the closure of the public convenience.
Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council say they have had to close the toilets until further notice as a result of an incident overnight.
It’s said that the toilet block, which charges users 20p per visit, was broken into and then vandalised, rendering the toilets unusable.
Visitors to the town are advised that the closest public toilets are located in South Street, near to the bus station.
A spokesperson for Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council has said:
“Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
“As you can imagine this is very frustrating for us, luckily we recently had CCTV installed!”

Make the idiots who thought it was a laugh to smash the toilets up go clean their mess up. Then fine them or their parents the cost of replacing what they have destroyed. It’s the only way to make them understand this behaviour is totally unacceptable. Brain dead idiots
Better idea, send an officer to their home and smash up their Ipads and game consoles whilst they watch.
These morons need catching and dealt with
They should be made to provide unpaid labour to repair and improve all the public toilets on the island until all are refurbished.
They may then realise the consequences of their actions , and even learn some skills
Sadly we all pay for the damage via our Council Tax.
Very disappointing to read this. The time and effort employed to upgrade these toilets has been destroyed in minutes by individuals or otherwise carrying out a wrecking spree??

The gents loos in South Street are disgusting. No urinals and three cubicles which are filthy. Last time I had thec misfortune to use them the washbasins didn’t work either.
