A full capacity crowd of 600 party-goers turned out eager to embrace 70’s nostalgia on Saturday night for the inaugural Jack Up The 70s event.
The indoor spin-off show, organised by the team behind the popular Jack Up the Summer festival, took place at Lower Hyde in Shanklin and was such a success organisers are now hoping to make it an annual event.
Award-winning 5-piece band The Zoots performed 2 energetic full hour sets, transporting audiences on a journey back in time by covering over fifty chart-topping songs from the 1970s including a selection of iconic movie soundtracks from the decade.
Event Manager Sarah Moss said:
“We are delighted to have staged another sell-out event. Jack Up The 70s welcomed visitors from both Portsmouth, Southampton and further afield ensuring a welcome boost for Island businesses out of season. There was a real mix of ages and so many Islanders who once spent their weekends partying the night away at fondly remembered Island nightspots were thrilled to have something with an original disco vibe.
“A huge thank you to The Zoots who put in a truly phenomenal performance enabling partygoers to relive a decade packed full of musical nostalgia. With hundreds of attendees in full 70s dress – we were totally blown away by the amazing range of costumes all of which made for an authentic 70s party atmosphere whilst helping to raise valuable funds for Beaulieu Respite & children’s home which is Jack Up’s charity of the year.”
The Zoots lead singer Jamie Goddard said:
“The Zoots have played in front of audiences on four continents, from Israel to Italy, Havana to Venice, Barcelona to Montego Bay – but there’s something especially nerve-wracking about playing to a crowd where you spent your childhood holidays! As it was we were completely overwhelmed by the huge turn-out and the incredible enthusiasm shown by all who attended.”
A wide variety of 70’s party classics played by several of the Island’s original nightclub DJ’s continued on through until 01:00.
The event coincided with the news that internationally renowned Queen tribute The Bohemians will be performing at Jack Up The Summer as well as Beautiful World – celebrating 30 years of Take That are to feature alongside a whole host of genuine household name acts from the 80s and 90s. The festival takes place 7th-9th August 2020.
