Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has written to Jacob Young, the Minister for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, asking to meet to discuss securing further regeneration support for the Island. This would utilise the Towns Fund or other government investment. Mr Seely has said there is a ‘strong case’ for wider Towns Fund support for Newport and The Bay Area, or potentially a whole Island fund to drive investment, thereby increasing job and wealth creation opportunities for Islanders. Bob wrote:
“As you know, I have been doing my utmost to champion the needs of the Island and I am delighted that we have secured not only Towns Fund investment, but other Levelling Up investment as well. “I would urge you to look at any funding available from the Towns Fund which could support these towns’’.
Speaking about the need for additional funding, Mr Seely said:
“We’ve seen a great deal of investment – around £60 million – going into Ryde to improve how the town looks and functions, which is great. The £20 million from the Towns Fund for further regeneration projects is on top of that which means there’s more improvements to come. “Now, and not forgetting Ryde, we need to turn our focus to other towns that need further investment. That includes Newport and the Bay Area. “We need to attract additional investment in these towns that can help us to create jobs and opportunities for Islanders. “I will be talking to ministers to see where there may be opportunities to bid for money and then I’ll be encouraging the council and others to submit their bids. “I’ll always be working to secure a better deal for the Island.”

He still not getting my vote
More BS Bob is at it again .. the daily BS “ look at me” propaganda but in truth I’ve done nothing, but enjoy the gravy train suckers .. so vote for me …
Bob pops up again. Can we have an election every year?
The price of sausages has gone up. I am seeking further funding to have a few extra BBQs this year, oh and refurbish my house, maybe build a swimming pool too, oh and definitely buying a fancy car, might even take the family and all my friends away on holiday. Islanders thank you for paying higher council tax rates. You all pay for my lavish lifestyle
Sorry Sausage me old mate…
All of this ‘sudden’ activity in pressing for funding for the Island is so obviously down to the fact that a General Election is fast approaching.
I think the Tory’s are going to have a very traumatic time at the polls…
Too little, too late Bob!
I don’t think he will have a traumatic time. With the opposition split between socialists, greens, bridge builders and whoever else, the Tory vote will remain undivided. They never change their vote and always vote Tory.
I’m not sure that is true… time will tell but I don’t think we will be a Conservative Island at the next election.
Well done Bob, nice to see you are starting the discussions so that our new person of stature can continue the future negotiations for investments.
What a lovely parting gift.
Is there something in his interest happening this year, seems to be saying a lot more recently than over the past four years?
Here we go again,bulls**t bob,
too little too late, youve had 5 years to do this,oh hold on election year, cant wait to vote you OUT!
Just think of the benefits a tunnel could bring. The funding for a study to find out would have been nice, but unfortunately Bob the horse has bolted for your promises. Anyone with 1 speck of common sense can see straight through you.
There will never be a tunnel. There is no possible justification for the astronomical cost involved.
Please ,please, the IOW council is bad enough, but do not under any circumstances give any money to the town councils to wste on their vanity projects
“Doing my best to champion the Islands needs”? If only you had put as much supposed effort in the past years of your time as an Mp to Isle of Wight constituents(the poor deluded who voted you in)! Than suddenly realising a General Election is looming and your are one of most despised men on The Island and that takes some doing with Albany and Park Hurst housing who they do! Nobody is fooled “Seldom seen” goodbye and good riddance
Pop up Bob is so transparent.
After the election we wont hear from him again for another 5 years
More lies and deceit from the ever present pop up bob. Don’t be fooled, if he gets in again this will all be forgotten.
He’s full on electioneering.Hoping everyone will forget how the Tories toasted the economy with their half hearted brexit (a five year old could have done better) and the disastrous Lez Trustless government that hit pensions so hard the bank of England had to bail them out. Lost us billions, and Bob had backed her.
What did we get in Ryde for £60m ?
Wht a great idea – I wonder he didn’t think of it sooner. Anyone would think there was an election in the offing…
We’ve all seen his utmost, utterly useless, time to go sausage.
Is there a general election coming up?
Popping up all over the place. It’s election time!
Bob I think you might have left it too late!
