Zane Cohen claimed his second Westridge Golf Club Men’s Championship title as Kim Meguyer secured the Handicap crown after 2 days of competitive golf.
Blustery conditions made scoring difficult on the opening day of the Men’s Championship, but Cohen and Bob Singh-Bansi emerged as the early leaders in the Scratch and Handicap competitions.
Former champion Cohen set the pace in the Scratch Championship with an opening round of 72, holding a one-shot advantage over Singh-Bansi on 73. Meguyer was close behind in third with 74.
Singh-Bansi produced the outstanding Handicap round of the day, returning an excellent net 60, 4 under par, to establish a 2-shot lead over Bowy White. Meguyer occupied third place with a net 66.
Conditions were somewhat calmer for Sunday’s concluding round, with Ian Couse, Jeffrey Foster and Trevor Gosset all making significant moves up the leaderboard.
Meguyer also improved his position, producing another round under par to clinch the Handicap Championship with a 36-hole total of 129 net. Couse finished just one shot behind on 130, while overnight leader Singh-Bansi held on to third with 131.
The Scratch Championship was equally close. Meguyer remained firmly in contention, but his total of 145 left him one shot short of Cohen, who followed his opening 72 with another round of 72.
Cohen’s 144 was enough to secure his second Men’s Championship title, adding to his victory in the inaugural competition in 2021. Mark Royl completed the podium with 147.
