A woman trapped on a cliff edge was rescued thanks to the efforts of a plethora of emergency service personnel this lunchtime (Monday).
It was at around 11:30 that resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were mobilised to the scene near Salisbury Gardens, following reports that an individual was trapped between the public space and the revetment.
At the scene it was quickly determined that rescue by rope was going to be the quickest and safest way to rescue the stricken individual.
Specialist HM Coastguard equipment was setup before a specialist rope technician traversed the cliff edge to the casualty.
Once they had been safely attached to the winch, the casualty – and their rescuer – were pulled to safety.
After being helped from the precarious position, she was passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo understands that the casualty had been trapped for well over an hour before her calls for help were heard.
Thankfully it isn’t though that any serious injuries have been sustained.
Emergency crews have since stood down from the incident.
Probably one of the Ventnor Town Councillors slipped and fell out of the Green Room!
