Shanklin Deep Sea Fishing Club has remembered club member Stuart da Silva with a special fishing competition held in his memory, raising money for a cancer charity.
The club competition was held on Sunday (20th September) in memory of Stuart, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Anglers competed for the Stuart da Silva Memorial Trophy, which was awarded for the heaviest individual total, with prizes also presented for the best specimen and heaviest combined boat total.
Rod Hodgson emerged as the overall winner after landing some impressive smoothounds while fishing alongside Ian Smith aboard his boat Sea King.
Ian finished as runner-up and also secured the specimen award with a bull huss.
Rod and Ian went on to take the heaviest combined boat award, while Hayden Wood finished 3rd overall.
All money raised through the competition will be donated to a cancer charity in honour of Stuart and his family.
Shanklin Deep Sea Fishing Club and Stuart’s family have thanked Jarvis Butchers, Wight Angling, The Fisherman’s Cottage and High Street Bar Co. in Ventnor for their generosity in supporting the competition with prizes and post-competition food.
