The iconic clock on Seaview’s Masonic Hall has been rebuilt and is now back in place.
There has been a clock in this position since the building was opened in 1912, however the wiles of the weather and aged parts eventually took their toll, prompting the Masons of Spithead Masonic Lodge to have it restored.
The restoration was carried out by Hawkins Clocks from Botley, Hampshire, who have been able to keep the original metal frame and the face glass but have made and fitted a new face, workings plus a Clock Resyncroniser and renewed LED lighting. This is progammed to work for the next 20-years.
Bob Cooper for the Spithead Masons said:
“The clock was there when this Lodge purchased the property 1947 and been the focal point for people passing through to check the time. Many attempts through the years have been made to keep the clock working, but severe weather and subsquent damaged brought it to its end.
“So it was our duty to the public to raise the funds to have the clock restored to it’s original iconic status, using as many parts of the original as possible. We thank Hawkins Clocks for their vision of restoring the clock so it will be working for many years to come.
As of 08:00 on 23rd April the clock was back working.”

Great to see it back.
