A seaside emergency near Seaview has led to a response from HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service this afternoon (Saturday). An ambulance crew, rapid response paramedic and an operational commander are on scene between Seagrove Bay and Priory Bay, where a child has been taken unwell. Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor are also on scene assisting medics, and Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat has launched to extricate the patient by sea. The youngster has been transferred around the headland by lifeboat to the slipway at Seagrove, where Coastguards have stretchered the boy across the sands.
An ambulance is waiting to convey the patient to St Mary’s Hospital. This afternoon’s incident began shortly after 16:10 and is now wrapping up.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
