Island Roads have advised that they are placing sandbags in several locations across the Isle of Wight due to anticipated high tides and adverse weather this weekend.
With fears of flooding near the coast, operatives have made available a number of sandbags at Newport Quay, St Mary’s Road car park in Cowes and Well Road in East Cowes. They are available for homes and businesses alike that may be at risk.
Although there is no flood alert or warning in place for the Isle of Wight at the moment (keep an eye here), the high tides mixed with strong gusts could cause some overlapping of sea defences etc.

Best fill a few more when all the building happens in Ryde, with Penny feathers, Nicolson Road, Bullen, Ashey, all running water into Monkton Brook. No wonder they have spent a lot trying to prevent such, CLEARLY showing they KNOW planning will be ‘approved’, yet likely it won’t be enough. But HEY the developers won’t be living there, so what do they care.
Correct all building does is alter the water table .. water has to run somewhere and it will find the easiest route. Likewise all the trees that are dug up … trees draw up a lot of water each day but when they’re gone once again the he water table balance is upset.
As you say the developers won’t be living in these places – just in a big pile with all the money they have made out of someone else’s impending misery in the form of flooding !
Amazes me the amount of queues now on roads around Ryde. Imagine the queues when all these homes and businesses are built. Whilst the ‘developers’ are well practiced in ‘soothing’ verbally, the irate at meetings, knowing full well that the promise of traffic management only pushes the problem to the next pinch point or junction.
They could not care less, they clearly are ‘in it’ for the cash, the lifestyle that such will provide, which is fine and normal, as most of us would be the same, given the chance. But they insult OUR intelligence by pretending to be caring for the environment, nature, providing doctors etc. They do so, as they ‘have’ to get permission.
Whilst their children will be whisked off to private education, their aged loved ones treated by private doctors and hospitals, their homes having gardens larger than some parks, and always having the knowledge that once they have ruined an area they can easily ‘up-sticks’ and find another as yet unspoilt corner of England to install the pool, hot tub, gym and pony paddock.
Of course we cannot all expect to live like that, and don’t begrudge them having such, BUT, don’t insult the people by pretending to care, when in reality they don’t.
This is NOT organic Island home needed growth, it is a direct impact from the mainland UK filling with newcomers, forcing the British to have to build ever more homes here as many British move away, which is bad enough, but then we have to subsidise the rents, the council tax of those who earn little, yet claim chid tax, working tax credits, family allowance, free NHS, free education, cancelling out any so called ‘gain’ of cheap labour, and all for those who most never wanted here in the first instance.
No wonder the country is so divided, sadly it effects this wonderful Island being soon rapidly ruined by more concrete, more cars, more delays, and come the next downturn far more unemployment. Watch and see.
Stop ya whining!
