The Salvation Army was given a festive boost earlier this month, to help it ease hunger and poverty across the Isle of Wight – thanks to a donation by Southern Vectis.
In the run-up to Christmas, The Salvation Army had been putting together parcels for those in need. They included food and hygiene products – but also 550 toys – which were sent out to 265 Island families, helping around 1,000 individuals.
To assist in easing hunger, Southern Vectis made a £320 donation.
Church Leader Lieutenant Luke Furlong has said:
“These extra funds will be very well used, and will help those who may otherwise not be able to have a Christmas meal or presents this year.
“We offer support to the Isle of Wight community throughout the year, and welcome donations via our Just Giving page or in person at our Church in Pyle Street in Newport – which is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”
Simon Moye, Southern Vectis operations manager, added:
“The Salvation Army provides a vital service, offering vulnerable people much-needed food and necessities when they are going through difficult times.
“We know many people struggle, particularly at this time of year, so we’re donating towards these special Christmas parcels. We hope those who receive them are able to make good use of them and we wish them a very happy and peaceful Christmas.”
Well done to Southern Vectis
The Salvation Army do a great job for people.
