Sainsbury’s’ trial of a new Nectar scheme is being adapted with Isle of Wight customers set to benefit from the return of the old style Nectar points system in April.
In 2018, the Isle of Wight was selected as a test bed for a new Nectar scheme designed to reward customers for their loyalty while ensuring a truly personalised experience. Over the past 12 months, shoppers and motorists alike have been rewarded based not just on how much they’ve spent, but also on how frequently they’ve shopped and how long they’ve been shopping with the retailer.
It seems that the trial, which was set to run indefinitely and to help shape the future of the Nectar scheme, has provided mixed results and owing to the feedback received the decision has been made to revert the Nectar system back to the normal.
From 3rd April, Islanders will once again be able to collect 1 Nectar point for every £1 spent, or 1 Nectar point for every 1 litre of fuel purchased.
However, customers who have already signed up to the new Nectar scheme can continue to enjoy all the tailored weekly offers after 3rd April, as well as collecting 1 point per £1 spent.
UPDATE FRIDAY – A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s has said:
“We are always looking at new ways to reward our customers and regularly review feedback of our trials. The Isle of Wight trial demonstrated that a combination of base rate and bonus schemes had a broader appeal to our customers.
“Customers in the Isle of Wight will now be able to benefit from the enhanced offering of New Nectar as the trial continues.
“New Nectar has been live in the Isle of Wight for an entire year, and in that time, we’ve learnt a lot about how customers like to be rewarded, which is why we’re bringing back our 1 point per £1 from the 3 April.
“The way customers shop and the technology we use every day has transformed over the years. We’ve modernised the Nectar scheme whilst ensuring it is easy to use.
“We’re fully committed to getting the scheme right for our customers. We’ll be listening to our customers throughout this next phase of the trial to make sure any changes we roll out nationally in the future reward our customers in the best possible way.”

Don’t understand why everyone doesn’t take advantage of these loyalty schemes.
I don’t do any of these l̶o̶y̶a̶l̶t̶y̶ tracking cards. What and when I buy something is my business.
You think that makes much difference to them?
That tracking has paid for multiple Eurotunnel crossings, a £600 watch and a bunch more stuff here over the years (Tesco equiv to nectar): they are more than welcome to know what beers/food/tyres/whitegoods/etc we buy!
Still, if the tin hat fits…..
Thank god what a waste of time and money
