A popular children’s splash park in Ryde is set to re-open as soon as next week as repair work continues following a recent mechanical breakdown.
With the hot summer sun shining down across the Isle of Wight, questions have been asked as to why the water-based playground at the Canoe Lake has not re-opened after the winter months.
It has been confirmed to Island Echo that a mechanical breakdown with the pumping equipment used to keep the water flowing means that it has been unsafe for the gates to be unlocked at this time.
Todd Miller of Waterside Community Trust, who manage the park, has said that 2 pumps, 2 valves and a filter have failed:
“The plant room which controls the water flow and filtration is very old. Each year it requires a fair amount of TLC, which Waterside Community Trust provides with no financial benefit. This year however everything has failed.
“These works are costing thousands of pounds and we are working with contractors to get it up and running as soon as possible, but as you can imagine this is specialist works and does take some time. This wasn’t expected, otherwise we would have completed repairs months in advance of the park opening – it is just a series of unfortunate events”.
“We hope that once it is up and running the splash park can once again be enjoyed by many for years to come. I will obviously not open the park until I am 100% confident it is safe and ready for the public.
“We apologise for the delay but I am hoping to get it [the park] up and running next week”.
The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed a new feature to the splash park. More on this soon…
