After some 25 years in Ryde, Carpets Direct is on the move – amalgamating everything under one roof in Shanklin. The prominent High Street business is heading to an extended warehouse at its existing home on Regent Street in Shanklin, where the firm has traded from for the past 12 years. No date has been given as to when the Ryde shop will close with work on a new showroom to be completed in Shanklin first. Carpets Direct has been at its home in Ryde for around 17 years, but has had a presence in the town for a quarter of a century. Today’s news means that Ryde will see another large premises left empty – and 1 less carpet retailer. It was back in March last year that Nuttall & Betchley – located on nearby Anglesea Street – closed its doors for the final time, as previously reported by Island Echo. Ryde will soon only have 1 carpet shop left – Islandwide Carpets on Star Street.

Odd that so very many more houses are built in Ryde, but businesses are fleeing the area.
Still Mc D’s, Orange spray tan and nail bars, and spoons should thrive on those alleged to be struggling on tax credits, with an undeclared live in ‘dealing’ lover, dressed in grey tracky, baseball cap and driving an ancient beemer at full pelt.
All we need now is the dingy flotilla contents to complete the ruination of Ryde and our once beautiful Island with then the schools resembling mini United Nations staff.
Wait until Labour run the show, and within two years watch unemployment and crime grow to new levels.
Don’t you think unemployment and the crime rate are high enough then, after 14 years of the Tories?
I used Carpets Direct Ryde for my carpets and my vertical blinds. Great service, but sorry to say I will not be traveling to Shanklin for my upgrade in the not to distant future.
I remember when this shop used to be Courts. Staff had to wear a uniform which made them look like entertainers from Pontins.
“I sincerely hope to see you all in Courts!” That was the ad.
Islandwide has better quality floorings and is well established.
At least Ryde will still have one that is very good.
Not many decent shops left in Ryde, it used to have a Next, Woolworths Dorothy Perkins to name a few. Now it’s mostly betting shops, charity shops and nail bars. Great. Newport looks shoddy as well now. We should get some new shops, bring back H&M at least! A Primark too would be nice
If this establishment is not up to your standards then you don’t necessarily need to make a comment but it is your choice but in my opinion theres no need for this
Thanks
