After some 37 years in business, Ryde’s Nuttall & Betchley will be closing its doors at the end of the month.
The carpet showroom has been a staple of the town since 1986 when it opened on Anglesea Street, next to what was then a public car park.
However, the time has now come for the owner, John Betchley, to retire.
At the age of 72 John has decided to wind things up and as a result, the business will close its doors for the last time on Friday 31st March.
A closing down sale is currently on with ‘very low prices’ and 50% off all rugs.
It’s unclear at this stage what will become of the showroom building, which sits behind the Co-Operative.

Another empty premises in Newport…
Another worthless comment, from an individual looking to comment for the sake of it. Since when was this company in Newport? Incredible indeed!!
Pratt!!! It’s in ryde. Get your facts right before mouthing an opinion
What a pratt
Likely filled with dusky delights in flats to add to the Ye Olde charm of Ryde’s populace.
All the best for your retirement, Mr Bletchley. (I just looked at the article because I like the building)
All the old family run proper businesses are going, it’s a shame. Thank you for your years of service you deserve a rest!
Enjoy!!
Oh no! What are we going to do now? Ryde will only have 2 carpet shops once this one closes! – In all seriousness though, have a long and happy retirement.
