Ryde is set to welcome the return of the Isle of Wight Steampunk Festival from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September 2025, following a successful debut last year.
The main hub for the festival will be Western Gardens, where free daytime events will be held for all ages. Additional activity will take place at venues including the Royal Victoria Arcade, FuBar and The Star Coffee & Ale House.
The event will feature interactive workshops, storytelling sessions, vintage puppetry, and children’s attractions such as a mini fairground. Several roaming characters are expected throughout the weekend, including The Dragon Hunter, Ziggy the Wandering Sea Monster and a replica of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Festival-goers will also be able to spot a roadworthy airship, known as the SS Dirigible, travelling through the streets of Ryde. A free vintage bus shuttle service will operate throughout the event.
Among the more unusual features of the festival are teapot racing and tea duelling, alongside the newly introduced ‘SteamPaws Parade’, where dogs will take part in a themed costume competition. Prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed pooch.
A parade is planned for the Sunday, with members of the public invited to dress in Victorian or steampunk attire – although fancy dress is not required to attend.
Evening entertainment will include a series of ticketed performances, with a line-up featuring artists such as Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer, Captain Kuppa T, Simply Kate Bush, Victor and the Bully, Alice Strange and Isle of Wight band Wight Hot Pipes.
The festival is supported by a number of sponsors and partners, including Wightlink, Red Funnel, Hovertravel, Visit Isle of Wight, Horsler Lift Services, New Carnival and Ryde Town Council.
