Elmfield resident Pippa Hayward has announced her intention to stand for election as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming by-election for Ryde Town Council. The position of ward councillor for Ryde Appley and Elmfield was vacated earlier this year – following the resignation of convicted drink driver Thomas Hanley – and a by-election will be held on March 21st, 2024. Pippa lives in the ward with her husband and 2 young children, who are educated at a local primary school. Her family has a long and established history in the Island’s hotel and hospitality industry and she grew up living, and then working, in her parents’ Island hotel from a young age. With more than 15 years’ experience working in the charities sector, her current role sees her working within a leadership role of an international charity with a £100-million+ budget. Her specialist expertise in leadership, organisational effectiveness and governance of a large charitable organisation are important skills she will bring to this role if elected. Pippa says:
“As a proud Islander I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of Appley and Elmfield ward representative on Ryde Town Council. “In my childhood, my grandmother owned The Royal Esplanade Hotel in Ryde, and some of my fondest memories are there, as well as working in my parents’ hotel in Seaview, which I started as soon as I was big enough to carry trays! “As a mother, swimmer, and cyclist, and someone with strong links in the community, I believe that I have a good understanding of the values and priorities of our community and am committed to being a voice for our ward, advocating for the issues which you believe are important. “My current career and work history means I can bring a wealth of relevant skills and experience to the Town Council – and to shaping the future of Ryde – building a stronger, more resilient community where every voice is heard and valued. “I want to ensure our roads are safe, our streets are clean and I firmly endorse the work of Network Ryde and the continued investment in safe spaces for our children and young people to meet, learn and grow. “I’m particularly interested in the Westridge Farm Campaign; the development of the derelict Houses on Marlborough road; and the potential for a residents’ agreement on the development of the Victoria Crescent Depot. “I’ve long been a strong supporter of the Waterside Pool, the development of the Canoe Lake and am committed to getting the Splash Park back up-and-running. “Together, we can ensure Ryde remains vibrant, safe, and inclusive for generations to come – let’s join forces to help shape the future of Ryde.”

Another waste of space, nothing will be achieved,
look at Jordan’s interchange, total waste of money and even more
dangerous.
NOW vehicles turn into George Street even though there is a
NO Right turn sign and there are Camera’s on the lights
or are they dummies (like IW Council)
The island is a complete joke!
I agree how that Jordan became leader of the council is just amazing it shows just how desperate that lot are.
Good Luck Pippa. You’d get my vote if I wasn’t just outside of your ward. I hope you get in… You’ll be a great voice
What a load of waffle, can you jump on any more band wagons!? Take a bench in Ryde high street on a Saturday afternoon and take it all in…there are problems much bigger than a splash pool.
Another one born with a silver spoon. When can we see normal people take these roles not rich nepo babies that want to extend their portfolio
Moan moan moan moan moan moan
All the usual intelligent comments being made as per usual….. good on you Pippa. I highly doubt any of the whingers writing on here have lifted a finger to try and do anything about the issues of which they are whining
