Vandals have yet again forced the closure of the gentlemen’s toilets at the Eastern Gardens in Ryde. 2 large holes were smashed in the tiles surrounding the toilets. This is the 2nd time in less than a year that the toilets have been vandalised. In October, vandalism caused damage to 2 of the cubicles as reported by Island Echo. The temporary toilets in Western Gardens also suffered from vandalism and fire damage in September of last year. The ladies’ toilets at Eastern Gardens are unaffected by this latest incident. Ryde Town Council have said:
“We regret to inform you that the Gents toilets at Eastern Gardens are temporarily closed for repairs due to vandalism. Our team is working to address the damage and ensure a swift restoration. “As soon as the necessary repairs are complete, the Gents toilets will be reopened.”

The island needs decent CCTV
Prevention.
Precisely
It would be an idea to fit very small cameras linked to a council officers mobile.
All they need to have is solid concrete block walls, a stainless steel pan, no handwash no toilet paper, bring your own gel, and buy tissue at a shop or carry such as you do when you have a cold.
Save a fortune and no pleasure for vandals, as it would be so basic the buzz of annoying the elderly wouldn’t be there.
Reinstate the cctv operators their pay must be well below the costs of repairing again and again, why is The so behind other seaside towns in doing this? Cuts vandalism and allows prosecution of those who do.. Common sense does not run strongly in our Councils it seems.
You don’t even need to pay wages. There’s enough old farts out there that would volunteer to do it on zero pay. Especially if they were offered a name badge, lanyard and ID card. Sorted.
Patronising tw*t!
Lol… I’d probably do a couple hours a week!!
No point having CCTV unless someone is watching AND there are police patrols available to attend immediately. Trying to prove identity from a CCTV image is all but impossible.
But I did notice someone attending a surveillance camera in Cowes yesterday so perhaps there has been a change of heart.
Lack of corporal punishment in schools.
Lack of parent engagement with their kids.
Lack of corporal punishment full stop.Today there are no standards, no discipline and certainly no punishment.
Bless them they need a place to go and play so mummy and daddy can smoke there grass get drunk and make more kids then go out for a drive
these youngsters are evidently bored. So, we should give them all something to do. keep the little blighters busy, very busy.
Bring back youth clubs; the ice rink; well lit skate parks etc…
After they have collected their child allowance to spend down the pub
As well as bad upbringing in homes and schools hampered by laws against even smacking, (if it cause a mark, which is impossible). There are no effective deterrents. Can’t name them, if they are old enough to do the crime they are old enough to be named. Only fair on society to know whose hanging about outside.
Ah, the day’s when parks employed a park warden… They resided in a nice house, onsite and looked after everything in their midst…
