Lengthy rush hour delays are being experienced on the main Newport to Cowes road this teatime (Thursday) as a result of a broken down horsebox.
Traffic along Parkhurst Road, Horsebridge Hill, Cowes Road and Newport Road is very heavy with queues from Horsebridge Hill backing all the way up to Northwood Garage.
Island Echo understands that the vehicle has broken down on the Cowes – Newport side of the road, and due to its size traffic is struggling to get past it.
Drivers heading out of Cowes can do so by going the back way along Rolls Hill and past Thorness Bay, but it is expected that way will soon get busy also. Closures are in place along sections of Pallance Road at the moment.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are in attendance at the scene.
Southern Vectis is experiencing delays to its route 1 buses and has withdrawn the 17:03 from Newport and the 17:30 from Cowes as a result.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

This has been for several hours,why don’t police get it towed further down out of way ?. Or they could do some traffic directing too. Must be a farmer with a tractor can help?.
Hopefully this won’t take as long to sort as it does when digging up the road with light up and no workers to be seen

Extra traffic police from Hampshire but nobody to manage the traffic while it is backed up almost into Cowes.

Funny that. Well after an hour of sitting in the traffic, the only thing blocking the Newport bound lane was a police van. No blue lights, no hazard lights and from what I could see, no police in attendance at all. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!

How long does it take to tow a vehicle off the road? It really can’t be that difficult.
