The RSPCA Isle of Wight is calling on brave members of the community to take part in this year’s Firewalk Challenge – a unique event that invites participants to walk barefoot across red-hot embers in aid of the Island’s most vulnerable animals.
Running the Isle of Wight Animal Centre costs around £750,000 each year, with the charity caring for hundreds of animals rescued from neglect and cruelty. Despite the scale of its work, less than 10% of funding comes from the national RSPCA, making local fundraising essential to keep the centre operating.
The Firewalk Challenge is set to take place at Isle of Wight Steam Railway on Saturday 8th November between 16:00-19:00. The event follows the success of other fundraising efforts this year, including the Great Isle of Wight Dog Walk and the Red Squirrel Ride.
So far, 25 people have signed up to take part in the fiery walk – but organisers say they urgently need 75 more participants. The £25 registration fee includes full, expert-led training on the day, and no previous experience is required.
Veronica Chrisp, Fundraising Manager, has said:
“The Firewalk Challenge is open to anyone aged 16 and over. Participants will be trained and guided safely across the embers – all they need to bring is their bravery.
“Please sign up and help us to make a real difference to our animals.”
