A road in East Cowes has closed just days after it reopened following utility works.
The emergency closure in the North Wight town relates to ongoing work to a rising main between Springhill and Fairlee, Southern Water has confirmed.
The initial repairs at New Barn Road, which has only just reopened following weeks of work, are in tact the water company has said. Tankers are on site to help with flows whilst the next steps are being discussed with the road that runs between York Avenue and Old Road closed for safety reasons.
There are suggestions that the valve may need to be removed however that is to be confirmed.
A Southern Water spokesperson has said:
“We apologise that we have again had to close New Barn Road, East Cowes, while we work to fix a new issue with a valve recently repaired on a rising main between Springhill and Fairlee. Tankers are on site to help with flows, and New Barn Road remains closed to ensure everyone’s safety.
“We are currently determining the steps required to complete a permanent repair and will continue to keep customers and stakeholders updated.”

Yet again poor workmanship, that’s what happens when you
employ persons who don’t have a clue what they are doing.
Bring a mainland firm over. Job done right first time.
These utter clowns closed the road for longer than initially expected last time with nothing happening there the majority of the time as all that was needed was an occasional pump out of the valve chamber but they inconvenienced everyone in the area instead.
Their signage is absolutely atrocious as well with an overkill amount of signs along Old Road which jut out, forcing vehicles to the wrong side of the road. There are zero signs through the rest of the Springfield Estate and John Nash Avenue has become dangerous with the amount of traffic negotiating parked cars right up to the junction onto Sylvan Avenue, again forcing cars on to the wrong side of the road. I’m really tempted to notify the HSE about this and would urge others to do so too.
