Isle of Wight residents are being advised of 2 road improvement projects that are to get underway today (Monday 11th December). Stroudwood Road on the outskirts of Ryde and Drill Hall Road in Newport are both being improved by Island Roads for a differing number of days this week. Both schemes involve deep excavations and strengthening of the highway foundations to address issues that have resulted in deterioration in the road surface. As a result, 24-hour road closures will be required at both locations for the duration of the work although access to premises will be maintained if it is safe to do so. The work on Stroudwood Road is expected to last 5 days and the work in Drill Hall Road up to 8 days. Residents in both locations have received letters outlining the work and the effects it will have on access. As well as this, from today, Queens Road in Ryde is to be closed so that a contractor – on behalf of Southern Water – can complete utility repair and maintenance works. These works are expected to be completed by Thursday 14th December. An Island Roads spokesperson said:
“The work at both locations involves us having to excavate at depth so unfortunately it won’t be possible to re-open the roads again at the end of each shift. “This work is however designed to reduce the need for future road repair. “We would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”
