The RNLI are looking to build a permanent lifeguard station in Sandown, replacing the seasonal hut on the beach.
A planning application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council seeking permission to place the permanent structure on the site of the old lifeguard unit on the Esplanade.
Currently, the semi-mobile lifeguard hut is removed from Sandown Beach each winter and returns for the summer season between July and September. It is situated in front of the former lifeguard building that is due to be replaced.
It is hoped that the plans will reduce the cost of the service for the life-saving charity.
It is expected that 2 part-time and 2 full-time staff members will be required to operate the lifeguard service between 10:00-18:00, 7 days a week, between July and September.
