Island Roads have issued a revised traffic order this afternoon (Tuesday) for Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road in Ventnor following the landslide. – which now includes no pedestrian access.
As initially reported, an emergency closure was put in place on Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road along with a revocation of the one-way system on Belgrave Road.
Today, the order has been updated to include no access for pedestrians and cyclists also.
The updated Temporary Traffic Regulations Order reads:
TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE – Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road, Ventnor
TEMPORARY REVOCATION OF ONE-WAY – Belgrave Road, Ventnor
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under Section 14 (2) (b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, that Ringway Island Roads Ltd, acting on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, to prevent the likelihood of danger to the public, or serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to any works on or near the road, considers that the closure to the road as specified below should come into force without delay.
ROAD TO BE CLOSED: Belgrave Road, from its junction with Alpine Road to its junction with Esplanade Road; Esplanade Road from its junction with Belgrave Road to its junction with Marine Parade, for a total distance of 236 metres. Closure to all traffic including Pedestrians, Cyclists and Vehicles at all times for safety due to landslip.
DIVERSION ROUTE(S): The diversion will affect these streets: Esplanade, Shore Hill, Rene Howe Walk, Pier Street, Church Street, Alpine Road, Zig Zag Road, Bath Road and Vice Versa.
Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
ROAD TO BE REVOKED: Belgrave Road, from its junction with Esplanade to its junction with Bath Road, to allow access for residents.
PERIOD OF CLOSURE: From 00:00 hours on 21st January 2020, for a maximum period of twenty-one days or until the area has been deemed safe to re-open, whichever is sooner.
