Saturday (21st November) sees the return of one of the most talked about bands of Ventnor Fringe 2015, The Diamond Age.
They played almost box-fresh with a short but massively punchy set. It rocked Ventnor Arts Club’s solid-as-a-bank foundations and the boys had to think quickly on their feet to find a song for an encore. But that’s changed. They have more songs, more gigs under their belt and have had BBC Radio play to boost awareness.
Southampton duo The Diamond Age, the project led by Matt Canning and Bilu Acharjee, return to Ventnor Arts Club and describe their sound as propulsive dream-pop, fusing together elements of indie, shoe-gaze and kraut-rock, creating music with immediacy and melody at its heart.
Stephen Izatt of Ventnor Arts Club said:
“I can hear the influences but it’s a unique sound.
“But if you’re asking me if I think it’s more propulsive dream pop than shoe gaze, or vice versa for that matter, I’m just going to say that these guys are very good and make an excellent noise that makes you want to move”.
Since late 2013, The Diamond Age have been self-producing their recordings, and November 2013 saw the release of ‘Yesterday Was’ and ‘Andrew’s An Android’ on Soundcloud, which has generated over 10,000 plays in the few months since.
There is support from fellow Southampton singer songwriter Dan O’Farrell.
Doors open at the club at 20:00 on Saturday night. Booking is advised via www.ventnorartsclub.com or by calling 01983 857050.
