Respected journalist and former Sky News correspondent Harriet Hadfield says she is hoping to become a Member of Parliament for Isle of Wight East in the next General Election, should the Conservative Party put her forward as their candidate.
When Islanders next take to the polls, the Isle of Wight will be split into 2 – Isle of Wight East and Isle of Wight West. It comes as the Boundary Commission shakes up constituencies across the country to make them more equally sized, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Current Tory MP Bob Seely has already said that he will be aiming to take the Isle of Wight West seat, leaving a question mark over who the Conservatives will put forward to run in the newly-formed East constituency.
It has now been revealed that Harriet Hadfield is hoping to secure the win in the East Wight at the next General Election – due to take place no later than January 2025 – if she is chosen as a candidate by the local Conservative Party.
Harriet lives in Seaview and is a parish councillor for the Nettlestone and Seaview ward. She grew up on the Island but moved away to pursue her career, heading back to the Isle of Wight in 2020 with her partner, Chris, her 4-year-old son and 2 stepsons. Then, earlier this year, Harriet welcomed a baby – now 6 months old.
Speaking to Island Echo Harriet says:
“This is an historic opportunity for party members to select a Conservative candidate for a brand-new parliamentary seat.
“I know it’ll be a very competitive field and plan to highlight the voluntary local journalism and campaigning work I do here on the Island.
“Five and a half thousand people signed my recent petition to Wightlink to reinstate evening FastCat sailings, resulting in the company adding extra sailings in December and crucially agreeing to consider re-extending the timetable next year.
“I believe having two MPs will be good for the Island, doubling our representation and fire-power in Westminster and I hope to be able to work alongside Bob Seely to continue the great work he’s already achieved since 2017”.
Harriet has previously worked for BBC News as a reporter and presenter for BBC London and BBC East Midlands before moving to ITN as a reporter for ITV London Tonight. It was in 2011 that she moved to Sky News as a correspondent and news anchor. In recent years, Harriet has carried out further stints at BBC News and Sky News and now hosts her own Island-based podcast series and email newsletter.

Very easy to report news and put your political slant on such.
It wasn’t so long ago when the British news was reported without political agendas putting a biased slant to soft brainwash the gullible masses.
So expect plenty of spin and with living in Seaview her home and village is unlikely to be affected by masse development or high levels of undesirable people settling there.
Imo another person who doesn’t love the Island, but merely the status of the hoped for position.
Time will tell and I hope I am wrong.
If she wants to succeed, she needs to commit to…
no more houses built on the island, as the existing infrastructure can’t copeno more taxpayer funded moves to the island for benefit claimants from the mainland.no asylum seekers or immigrants permitted to be “put here” simply because they illegally turned up in a dinghy from the very safe country of france.no second home ownership or airbnb permitted. if not, make the taxes so high, that no one will do it.anyone convicted of a crime on the island, who is not a born and bred islander, is to have his/her right to live on the island removed.cut local benefit budgets to the bone, to prevent people from sponging as muchinsist that the police stop being woke.
She will be told to vote for the housing targets the government want. And she will vote for them. The vast majority of those moving to the Island and driving house building are elderly and well off. There are very few immigrants on the Island and the vast majority of those that are are skilled professionals most are healthcare workers. She will vote as she is told to on this as well. The Isle of Wight is just another English county. This can no more be done here than it could be done in any other county. Ludicrous demand.Benefits are set nationally and she will vote on them as directed by the Government. Another ludicrous demand.Clear you don’t know what “woke” means. This may help :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR4rHPpoPHQ&t=78s
Anyone who truly cared for the Island wouldn’t stand for the Tory party.
Before anyone comments “but Labour”, you do realise that everything going on right now is due to Tory policy?
The housebuilding requirements.
The migrant problem.
The high inflation.
The state of the NHS.
The strikes.
The lack of dentists and doctors.
Yes, we all know that Labour may not be any better, but another Tory Government will just mean more of the above, and worse. If they get in again we will end up with a US style healthcare system where you are asked how you are going to pay for your ambulance before it’s dispatched.
Even if an Isle of Wight Tory MP wanted to support the Isle of Wight, they will just be whipped into betraying us.
Torys have been hijacked by the WEF, vote reform and lets change this mess
Totally agree.
Having lived through the disaster of Labour in the Blair years, watching them destroy the NHS dental service, double the immigration figure, leaving the country broke in more ways than and now through Tory rule being governed by one of the richest men in the country who is totally out of touch with people, a vote for an alternative has to be the only thing a normal citizen can do.
Hmm.
In 2009 I could get a face-to-face GP appointment on the same day.
I had an NHS dentist.
There weren’t ambulances queued outside St Mary’s
There were no migrants crossing the channel in rubber boats.
Council services were half decent.
We now have the NHS on its knees.
Almost impossible to see a GP.
Totally impossible to find an NHS dentist accepting new patients.
St Mary’s having one critical incident after another.
Record migration.
Council services cut to the bone.
Worst industrial unrest for over 40 years.
Highest inflation for 40 years.
There is also the little issue that your “alternative” is never going to happen. The next Government will be Tory, Labour or one of those in coalition with the LibDems.
Make sure you STOP Households Parking on Pavements
Always a car parked outside
No. 90 Great Preston Road Ryde ON the pavement
BAN PAVEMENT PARKING AND YOU WILL GET OURS AND OUR FAMILES VOTE.
No one on the Island seems to understand what Pavements are for.
Pavements are for pedestrians – NOT VEHICLES
It was on the list of the new IW Council last year to clamp down on pavement parking, but the practice has increased due to high parking charges and no ‘free’ parking slots’. It makes me laugh why people think they can park on double yellow lines as long as they have flashers going.
Trying to get into Newport using either a mobility scooter or pram is a real headache.
Double yellow lines mean “no waiting”, not “no stopping”. You can stop to load or unload as long as you are not causing an obstruction.
Use of hazard lights are not a requirement to do so, but are prudent to warn other drivers. They also serve to indicate that the driver of the vehicle has not permanently parked.
> Pavements are for pedestrians – NOT VEHICLES
get your radical communist ideas off my Island
The term ‘pavement’ is a misnomer.
The pavement is the whole area that has been paved i.e. the roadway, meant for vehicular transport, and the footway, i.e. the area designated for pedestrians.
Therefore, to promote your issue always refer to vehicles parking and/or driving on the FOOTWAY i.e. an area designated for the sole use of feet and not wheels.

Pavements are for pedestrians – NOT VEHICLES!
Payment parking is illegal.
No it isn’t.
Obstructing a pavement is illegal, however. If a pavement parker does not leave enough room for a pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter to get by, then they are breaking the law.
Smiffy, you are talking out of your arse. It is illegal! The black belt lawyer did a video about it a few months ago. You can only mount the pavement for access to your drive. You can NOT park on the pavement.
There is a huge risk is accusing people of “talking out of their arse” while talking out of your own arse.
It is illegal to park on the pavement in london, but not elsewhere.
Here you go:
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/legal/parking-on-the-pavement/
The key paragraph you are looking for is this:
“However, outside of the capital or “elsewhere”, the Highway Code states drivers should not park on the pavement, meaning it is advisory and not, therefore, backed up by any legislation.”
Not backed by any legislation and, therefore, not illegal.
Would you care to bend over when you reply so we can hear you better?
Bob or harriet can dream on
Neither will be getting my
Don’t need another Seely .. don’t want another Selly and his achievements since 2017 .. where ? Lots of foreign trips and strongly worded letters ..
Don’t matter who gets voted in. They are all the same. The only way to make real chance is copy what the french did in 1789 – 1799
