HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out the rescue of an individual at St Boniface Down in Ventnor this evening (Thursday).
Emergency teams, including Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and a local co-responder, are on the scene off Leeson Road. They were called to the developing incident sometime before 16:30.
It has been confirmed that firefighters have also been called in to assist another agency – the Coastguard – with the rescue of a female. Island Echo is told by readers that at least 3 appliances are racing towards the incident.
UPDATE – Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team has also been deployed to St Boniface to assist other resources already on scene, indicating the scale of the situation in hand.
Emergency teams have stopped at the bottom of a footpath close to where Leeson Road meets St Boniface Road.
UPDATE – The incident has been brought to a safe conclusion. The casualty – a 12-year-old girl – has been conveyed to hospital for treatment after suffering a fall. Coastguards and firefighters used rope rescue techniques to evacuate the child on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Mum Julie Wyatt has confirmed that her daughter has escaped any serious injury, but is battered and bruised. The 12-year-old was kept in hospital overnight for observation.
Julie has expressed her thanks to all the emergency services and others involved in helping to get her daughter to safety. She says she is so very grateful.
