An oblivious driver has been called out on social media for parking across the entrance to an Isle of Wight fire station – an action which could have delayed an emergency response.
Friends of East Cowes Fire Station have posted this photo on Facebook to remind all drivers that the entrance to a fire station is not the place to park, even for a short time.
The Audi TT was spotted parked side-on across the entire entrance to East Cowes Fire Station on York Avenue. The station operates on a retained call-out basis meaning firefighters could arrive at any moment in response to a pager alert.
Parking across the entrance or bay doors of a fire station could have devastating consequences.
In November last year, a Ford Focus driver was blasted by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service for parking directly in front of the doors of Cosham fire station, which delayed the crew’s response to a road traffic collision.
The message from East Cowes’ firefighters is clear: please keep the entrance clear at all times.

Could have been a real tragedy, a home owner might have had to used oven gloves to throw outside their two slices of smouldering toast, rather than having two or more appliances and thirty men doing it for them at our expense.
Az Sahara whatever your name is, you’re a special kind of stupid.
Stu, thanks; I think!
One day it may be you involved trapped in a vehicle, burning building or similar, every second counts for emergency vehicles getting to an incident, and all you can do is make stupid comments on here day after day, are you such a retard that you actually think your comments are funny ? To me you are just a stupid little perverse idiot. It’s about time moderators did something about your continual idiotic comments.
Is that what you think that on call firefighters only get called to, then your very mistaken
Phil I am very well aware of the type of calls RDS firefighters get called out for, not all are serious, some are for afa’s false alarms including malicious, special services etc etc, my point is that every call is to a potentially serious incident, a vehicle blocking the apron on the station is just another example of the ignorance of drivers , no RDS firefighter knows what the shout is until he or she attends the station, they get to the station as quickly and safely as possible, a car blocking the station entrance is another hazard slowing down attendance and turnout times. With the number of times pumps are not available because a full crew can’t be raised pumps are travelling further to incidents, increasing attendance times and potential escalation of the risk.
What a ridiculous comment, you idiot!! Our fire service do a fantastic job, they had to cut me out of my car following a car accident last year and I can’t praise them enough.
That’s really not necessary, our fire brigade do a fantastic job and do not deserve comments like that.
Not helpful
A fine and tow away
I think you are being too kind with the word “oblivious”.
The East Cowes Fire Station notice is clearly visible
Looks like they are sat there on the phone
Ignorant Pratt
More bad parking on the the Isle of Wight……. Well it is an Audi
What’s that stupid comment mean. Dumbass
Very worrying that someone has parked in this way due to either:- lack of awareness of their surroundings or lack of care and consideration. With no malice intended, it is my view that the Fire Brigade would be absolutely justified in shunting the Audi out of the way in an emergency.
Obviously an ignorant uncaring driver
Barge the car out of the way with the fire engine and then bill the owner for repairs to the fire engine.
Silly and thoughtless thing to do but if there was a fire shout, the retained crew would have arrived and they’d have moved, by the time they’d kitted and gone mobile, it would be gone. Lack of self awareness but pretty sure no one would have died.
If he can afford an Audi TT, he can afford a new one after the fire engine ploughs its way through the blockade, surely?
‘Martin’ looks to be correct; the driver is with the vehicle, on the phone and has safely pulled off the road so as not to be commiting a road traffic offence. Yes, he could have chosen a better spot but he’s still with the vehicle and could quickly move if need be so it’s not really an issue. Firefighters used to be able to simply ‘bump’ a car out of the way by manaul handling but I expect health and safety has put a stop to this practice now.
