The Red Funnel-owned Hythe Ferry service, which runs across Southampton Water, has been suspended until further notice due to damage sustained to the mooring pontoon.
Damage to the dolphin piling at the Hythe Pier landing led to a survey of the pontoon and its supporting structure earlier this week.
Engineers have determined that further assessments and repairs are required, resulting in a decision being taken by Red Funnel to temporarily suspend the Hythe Ferry service.
It’s said that engineers will be re-attending the pontoon as quickly as possible, with further information to be released regarding a repair timeline in due course.
It was in September last year that Red Funnel purchased the Hythe Ferry to maintain the historic service, which runs daily between Hythe and Town Quay, Southampton.
Red Funnel apologises for the inconvenience to customers and say its working to resume the service as soon as possible.
What is happening to the Boats lately,
the services are getting worse.
Late stage capitalism. Reduce quality for short term increase of profits. Ultimately leads to the collapse of the service. Happening in all sectors.
Red Funnel take it over and immediately break it. Who’d have thought it.
How sad “to maintain the historic ferry service it has to now follow the new parent company , AND HAVE SERVICE PROBLEMS My sympathy to those who like us have rely on the new owners!!!
Is this the story of King Mucus? Everything they touch turns to sh!t.
