The bookshop at Quarr Abbey is 1 of 500 independent bookshops to share in the £2million profit generated since the launch of Bookshop.org, the local book-buying alternative to Amazon.
Navigating a challenging year, independent booksellers continued to prove resourceful, creative and resilient throughout 2021.
Bookshop.org customers have now generated over £2million in profit for indies, with 55% of the total profit being distributed to bookshops in customer-designated commissions, and 45% being shared equally among all participating bookshops as part of a shared profit pool, irrespective of their level of activity on the site.
Independent booksellers are grateful for the commission from Bookshop.org supporting their in-shop efforts by bringing in incremental financial revenue, ensuring their physical businesses are able to keep going even through hard times.
Father Luke, manager of Quarr Abbey Bookshop, said:
“We are pleased that our customers can get a very wide range of books from our online platform uk.bookshop.org/shop/quarrabbeybookshop as well as particular recommendations from us, and we are very grateful for the support we receive through bookshop.org”
Quarr Abbey Bookshop is next to the Visitor Centre at the Benedictine monastery between Wootton and Binstead.
