The village of Niton in the South Wight could get 4 ‘much-needed’ new homes.
Domusea Developments has lodged a proposal for four semi-detached houses with an access road, parking, community open space and landscaping off Allotment Road in Niton.
The development would make a ‘significant’ contribution towards affordable housing and addressing the Island’s housing supply shortage, according to the applicant’s agent, Andrew White Planning Consultancy.
It comprises 1x 2-bedroom bungalow and 3x 3-bedroom chalets with each property benefiting from a ‘good size, private’ back garden.
The consultation said:
“The proposed housing development would inevitably alter the appearance of the site, through changing it from a paddock to a small housing development,
“However, given the amount and type of surrounding buildings, topography and the established vegetation along many of the boundaries the proposed dwellings would not appear dominating or out of place but would principally be seen within the context of surrounding housing.
“The proposed dwellings have been very tastefully designed reflecting cottagey architecture, using materials that display local distinctiveness and incorporating attention to detail.”
County Hall’s public consultation on proposal 25/00865/FUL finishes on 1st September and a decision is expected on 29th October.

Has anyone tried to get a doctors appointment lately it’s the last green space in the village let’s keep it that way
Whether these new homes are going to be affordable housing will very much depend on how much they will be marketed for, a detail sadly lacking from the information in this report.
Much needed. Lol, who needs such homes,
plenty of homes are available on rightmove.
How many affordable ones? Quick stats dive into Rightmove here….max price £250k (even that’s a stretch for both working) and max 3 bed brings up….252 properties, roughly 30 of those were 10 month occupancy caravans.
Half of adult children under 24 still live with parents, a quarter still under 30.
That’s an awful lot of younger generation who can’t find a home here, so end up moving away. My daughter and her family including…and that’s a big skills and brain drain.
Much needed by whom indeed ? The developers pockets or greedy council or parasite migrants ?
By the 2.5k currently on the waiting list.
