A large offshore support vessel remains moored off Ryde as its crew works to repair an undersea power cable which runs between France and Britain. ‘Connector’ has been in the Solent since the tail end of last year, sparking many a question as to why. Its bright red and white appearance stands out on the seascape. It has now been confirmed that a failure of the 149-mile-long IFA2 power cable, which carries electricity for around 1million British homes, has prompted the arrival of the vessel in our shores. The fault was first identified on 14th November with divers sent down soon after to assess the damage. Repair work has been taking place since, and is not expected to be completed for at least another 3 weeks. It’s unknown what caused the damage to the cable – which runs between Lee-on-Solent and Caen in Normandy. The National Grid expected power to be restored by 21st February, if everything goes to plan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNK-mo7Xu8I

wow thank you for sharing looks cool
I expect the Russians know what caused the damage.
All prep for WW3, so tuck them in well tonight.
Sadly I think you are right. I expect the Russians will see how long it takes to repair, then when the next War begins, with the USA once again using Europe as it’s battle field, we will bear the brunt of the conflict, with the better people leaving for New Zeland or the USA, leaving our women at the mercy of the enrichment who won’t fight on religious grounds but will happily amuse themselves whilst the men and law and order are gone.
This time the country will not pull together but pull apart imo as too many non British except in name only just to claim all our own people can. Their loyalty must be paper thin, to leave their homelands and families so God help us when it all starts for most will not be ‘along side’ our boys.
I can think of better cables to damage if you’re a hostile state. 78% of the world’s Internet connections go through the UK – why not go after one of those cables, instead of a UK-France interconnector that is just a way of buying cheaper electricity? It makes no difference to anyone if it’s working or not. Subsea cables get damaged all the time, that’s why firms like Global Marine have a fleet of repair vessels on standby 24/7.
Very reasonable answer.
Rob is only for such as it means yet another day off as not enough power to run the electric trains.
The UK-France interconnector doesn’t land on the Isle of Wight. Our power cables land near Gurnard from Lepe. In the event of dual supply failure, Cowes Power Station can be remotely switched on via RWE Didcot.
