PORTSMOUTH TO ENTER TIER 4 FROM MIDNIGHT – GOVERNMENT SAYS ‘STAY AWAY’

SOLENT LEP LAUNCHES LOAN FUND TO HELP SOLENT BUSINESSES ‘RESTART, RESTORE AND RECOVER’

Portsmouth will be thrown into Tier 4 restrictions from midnight tonight (Saturday) with the Government very clearly stating that people shouldn’t travel to or from the area, throwing up questions about ferry travel to the Isle of Wight.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced in a press conference from Downing Street this afternoon that millions of people in London and the South East – including Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant – will find themselves under tough Tier 4 lockdown restrictions from tomorrow.

Those in Tier 4 areas are being told not to travel outside of their local community and those in Tiers 1 to 3 are being told not to travel into Tier 4 zones.

Alarmingly, Wightlink’s Fishbourne car ferry and Fastcat catamaran service both travel to Portsmouth, with Hovertravel’s Ryde to Southsea service also landing in the Tier 4 restricted area. Both cross-Solent operators employ people living in the City of Portsmouth.

It is unclear this hour how these latest restrictions will affect those travelling to and from the Island via Portsmouth.

Islanders hoping to get some last minute Christmas shopping in Pompey will instead have to travel to Southampton, with all non-essential retail closing in Portsmouth in the next 7 hours.

The restrictions will remain in place until at least 30th December when the Government will review the tiers. However, there is growing concern that the whole country will be thrown into a third national lockdown in January.

In response to this evening’s news, many Islanders are calling for pubs and hotels in Ryde to check IDs for local addresses amid fears those from Portsmouth will hop across the Solent.

Exactly, ‘PLACES’ don’t have cv, PEOPLE do. Few would go to Portsmouth to eat or drink, so WHY do it here now they have ‘arrived’?

Well let’s all thank them for the lives that it will cost ‘ the job losses the families left bereft through the loss of a loved one etc.
I think they should be rounded up and sent packing back to where they came from.
So all you b and bs hotels and accommodation kick them out and save your staff and their families .
Our Hospital staff our police force save our island .
I for 1 would not visit a pub restaurant b and etc if I knew they had let tier 3/4 stay .

And SO is their tiers risk. As it is not the place but the person who ‘carries such’. Avoid all places they frequent.

Let’s hope the rumours of this being more aggressive form of CV are unfounded and such is only being said and ‘used’ by HMG to scare us all into being even more safe.

If it really does mutate and start affecting the young in the same way as the old and vulnerable then we all are in deep trouble.

It pays to look at what others are saying about what is happening in U.K. We’re being misled because there really isn’t any evidence that this ‘new’ variant in any way represents a threat. Given the paucity of evidence, why are we locked down again? No lives will be saved.

It doesn’t throw up any questions about travel at all – it’s very clear. No one should enter other leave a Tier 4 area, so use Lymington/Yarmouth or Cowes/Southampton, all ferries into Portsmouth should now be cancelled. That’s following HM Gov rules,

Bembridge is worse. Imagine the pubs a breeding ground for cv to infect the in digenous here.

They should be now all closed by law, as people are too thick to not go IF they are open.

Shops have food, beer, etc, there is NO NEED to go out to eat, ALL Have cookers USE THEM

This new variant seems very a ggressive and if it take the young we are done for.

No need for anyone to volunteer, as social security will pay their rent, feed, clothe, heat their homes UNTIL the vaccine returns life to normal

WILL YOU pay for their funerals if their family are stricken, and children made orphans?

I hear on Monday and Tuesday the ferries are full coming across. What now!! Unfortunately those hoping to go to the hospital for treatment should stay this side too.

The huge amount of car drivers not knowing where they are going in Bembridge proves how many are down for the break. No pub will be safe to go to with this new variant of cv, far far easier to catch and less choosy about the age of the victim to cause potentially serious harm

We should have stopped all the ferries bar one a day. This could turn really nasty now, as before although frightening for the older people and those at risk groups, it seems now, all groups and ages are more at risk with the mutations occurring so quickly.

Let’s hope the vaccine is still effective and they should get it out, before the mutation renders it useless soon.

We have to have a different vaccine for flu each year, BUT the virus doesn’t ‘wait’ a year to ‘alter itself’. This can occur days after you have had the jab for the latest type. Now we see with cv, the mutations come hard and fast.

God help us all now. Try to enjoy this Christmas as best as you can, and make the most of it.

Warners Bembridge is heaving with people from London Yorkshire and the Midlands

Anyone from the Island who drinks or eats out imo deserves all they are likely to get. Totally selfish, as, as you rightly say, Bembridge is full of cars and people from the mainland staying in their second home, BUT they are the ones going out to eat and drink.

I wouldn’t care, but when they leave we are left with all those navie Islander who go out to eat and drink in the same place as they do, yet would not go to Portsmouth to drink or eat out, but now the RISK is the same here.

Places don’t ‘have’ cv, it is the PEOPLE who DO, and THEY are HERE. THINK for yourselves.

This NEW variant is likely more deadly to younger people hence the panic from the Gov, yet to be officially announced as they are trying to gain more info on it atm, so just a rumour at present, but seems all a bit odd otherwise.

Just to pay more for a pint or treble for a plate of food is NEVER worth the risk.

This is NOT just about Warners. for MOST of those eat in the place. This is about all those with a second home here, who, are the type to go to pubs and other places where locals eat and drink, who then will spread this deadly virus to them, and ONLY once they have all left, will WE see the damage done to this Island and our low tier level.

All pubs and eating establishments other than take away should be closed, as ‘they’ will now become the hot bed of virus spreading to us all. This new strain is deeply worrying and if as some think it is far more contagious and could affect the young, then surely the risk of one plate of average yet expensive food, or a beer in confinement at a table is NEVER worth the risk?

plato, people like you are afraid to here the truth. Many many people are filling Bembridge who have come here to escape from high risk areas. Many Islanders go to Portsmouth shopping at this time, and many have something to eat or drink whilst there.

An AREA does not ‘have’ Cv. It is the PEOPLE from that area that ‘has’

So, all those coming from high risk areas, IF you drink or eat in the same establishment as them, are putting yourself in the same risk as if you went TO a high risk area.

Grow up, face the facts and truth and stop lulling the dim into a FALSE sense of safety.

Do YOU own a business and are afraid of losing cash?

When you wrote your original post (yes we all know its you using yet another burner ID) it was factually incorrect – there was no tier 4 at the point – which was my point, seemingly passing WAY WAY over your idiotic head.Still, carry on being a scaremonger.

The ferry ports should have an old house boat towed and dumped in them, the airports should be ploughed up and any harbours should be surrounded by wild dogs. Anything less and we will have the most awful 2021. The mutation is more serious than we are being told hence the panic now.

What a bloody waste of time YET AGAIN. What the hell is the point of making tier areas and then make no laws or restrictions to stop people traveling to other tiers.Lets just see how much Bullshi* Boris stays in No10 or any of his cronies for that matter stay at home after telling US WE have to. Not one of them will, we can guarantee that, those rules won’t include them. We would not be in situation now if they had all acted sooner at the first incidents of infection. Lets see how soon the visitors to the Island are stopped coming here from tiers 2,3 and 4 by pulling the ferries. We know it won’t happen so no point being in a lower tier

Feel free to surround the Fishbourne ferry terminal with pitch forks. How do you think your post, food and fuel will continue to arrive if you stop the ferries?
If you want to stop people arriving then get the IOW council and Hampshire constabulary to police it.

It will be illegal to travel to or from a tier 4 Portsmouth. Therefore there will be nobody on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne ferries nor the Fastcat or Hovercrafts so all those services will be cancelled.

Indeed I do, which is why a vehicle ferry service has continued to run all year to keep our supermarket shelves stocked and my car full of fuel. Suggesting that Portsmouth moving to tier 4 means ferries stop, has nothing to do with essential vs non essential. Individuals obeying the rules is where essential vs non essential matters

Oh come on, you must know all London plates then! I understand everything you say but plates are not an indication in any way. Give us an example then since you know it all? If my vehicle is registered in central London, what would my plate be? Will it be different from Middlesex? Or south London? Or even Hertfordshire? Get a grip, cars are registered all over the country, you may not have had many new cars but as a company car driver, your plate bears no recognition as to where you live!!!!

Cargo can all come over on red funnels new cargo ferry. It says no one is to travel in or out of a level 4 zone .so if wightlink carry on they should be fined heavily for putting their passengers and islanders at risk where is there duty of care

Actually fine to travel through a tier 4 area as long as don’t stop for something. Example the M27/A27 goes through Portsmouth and Havant tier 4 zones so do you expect no traffic to be allowed to go on that road?

So therefore it’s fine to travel and just don’t get out car while at the port.

It is the people carrying CV NOT the postcode.

Now our pubs will be as infected as if we were in tier 4 IF as they are in Bembridge, Seaview etc, filled with people FROM those high risk areas.

They will leave, and then, and ONLY then will locals and the staff start to fall victim.

Still the boss will have a full ’till’ so, people are easy to replace. WHAT an attitude.

Avoid all places until two weeks after the DFLs have gone imo.

What complete Bozo came up with this plan? It’s not just Portsmouth. Londoners have finally found something they’d like to share with the country. You should see the M3 rammed after yesterday’s announcement. Londoners are fleeing the capital in droves carrying their “plague” with them. It would have been better for the government to keep tiers as they were until after Christmas – instead it’s getting spread all over the country so we’ll all end up in tier 4.
