Morrisons petrol station in Newport remains cordoned off this morning (Sunday) after a robbery, which saw a staff member assaulted.
Police were called to the busy filling station in the heart of Newport at 19:29 yesterday evening, after a man entered the store and assaulted a member of staff.
The man is then said to have stolen a number of goods, including tobacco and alcohol, before fleeing the scene.
Cordons have been established around the kiosk and forecourt off Church Litten as Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary continue to investigate the incident.
The petrol station remains closed.
Forensic investigators are expected to attend later on today as officers work to identify and locate the suspect.
No arrests have been made at this time.

We need Bobbies constantly walking the beat,
crime is spiralling out of control on the island.
Hopefully the victim will get well soon.
Blame for this growing, problem lies with our pathetic judiciary. Who continually let shop workers down, with nonsensical punishment.
It is getting to the stage such stores will
have to sit behind bars with a serving hatch.
The law needs to get tough on such persons.
Makes a change from petrol stations robbing the public.
You mean the Government, they take fuel duty of
52.95 pence per litre of diesel and petrol.
disgusting comment shop workers need respect
Anyone assaulting anyone should result in an
immediate prison sentence.
I feel sorry for staff and police who get assaulted
and the culprits get let off.
It makes doing ones job worthless.
