Police, fire crews and paramedics are in attendance at Victoria Barracks in East Cowes this afternoon (Sunday) where a child has fallen through a skylight.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were mobilised to the scene on Albany Road at around 16:00.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were also called to the scene alongside fire appliances from Newport due to the nature of the incident.
Island Echo understands a child – who was walking along the roof of the premises with a group of others – has fallen through a skylight landing on the floor below.
Firefighters had to use bolt cutters to access the casualty who was then tended to by paramedics before being helped into a waiting ambulance.
This isn’t the first time Police have been called to this location as a result of anti-social behaviour.
The site is currently being renovated and will become a UKSA activity centre once work has been completed.
The incident has quickly been scaled back with both fire appliances having since stood down.

Shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Waste of Emergency services time
Fine the parents for not controlling their child.
Shouldn’t have been there in the first place
Again far more fire appliances than required ….TWO….for someone falling through a skylight.
That is two to many. Ought have left it there. State kept trash is sadly NOT an endangered species
Obviously they have nothing better to do.
Due to the nature of the call and the different kit carried by each appliance. I’m sure they know what they’re doing.
Are you serious? Why blame the parents if 16 or under and out with mates you can’t control them. They could of been raised perfectly but still rebel. Kids will be kids and unfortunately get into trouble, saying waste of resources what about drug users, alcoholics, elderly, mental health? Are they wasting resources aswell? Get a grip
Now come on !!!!!!!! get with the programme. You’ll never get an invite to the pitchfork brigade with comments like this. We need to muzzle the little blighters and castrate the parents……or something.
They are so old and senile that they can’t remember what it is to be young. Lads have been getting up to mischief since forever, its what lads do.
I think most of these whiners popped into existence at 70.
I’ll tell you why I was ‘controlled’ by my parents as a child… while I was out of reach of my parents. Is because I knew I’d have my ass tanned if I did anything stupid.
In the 90’s it feels like there was more of a community, everyone knew of everyone, or if you didn’t, you knew someone that knew someone. I remember being a bit lippy to a stranger while out on my bike once. My dad knew about before I got home… and had words with me.
You could never be sure in any given situation whether your parents would find out, and I respected them.
I guess a combination of less ‘local bobby’s’ and people living lives with their heads buried in mobile phones on social media have changed the ways of the world.
Im sorry you were taught “respect” with the threat of violence, but what that actually teaches is fear not respect. How very sad. If you have to use physical punishment to control your child, id suggest not having any.
Drug Users most definitely are!!
Shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Waste of Emergency services time
Fine the parents for not controlling their child
How is that mentality allowed breathing space, you may of grown up by your mother’s hip but most these days do not. Most peoples home life isnt pleasant, regardless of these kids not allowed up there or that they are being potentially anti social had it been else where, getting outside the house with their friends is one of the most important things to them. Whilst the climate of how kids grows up has changed the fundamental principle of being a child has not. So much for educating, no wonder they have no respect for people because this is how people act…
A valuable lesson for that child – he/she won’t be standing on any skylights again. Mind you, the rest of us as kids instinctively knew that skylights weren’t safe to clamber on.
Slap on the wrist and lesson learned with no irreversable consequences let’s hope.
Can’t we look at the positives for a change.
Ahhh didems, fine the parents for a new sky light!
That’ll learn him… should be done for breaking and entering… no sympathy…
Ahaha should be done for breaking and entering get a grip love and I have no sympathy for people who put their horses in a race they do not belong to….
Serves them right, shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Hopefully will be prosecuted ( but depending on age as a child is usually under 12 ,over 13 teenagers and know better) for trespass and criminal damage, I guess at least the others did right calling for help,in a big city they might of just ran off and left them!.
The sad irony is the toe rag parents will now probably looking for compensation from the building owners for not putting signs up say ‘ stay off the roof ‘
Charge the brat with trespassing &
Invoice the parents for the broken roof light ! ! !
And grammar lessons for all concerned…
And invoice the parents for the cost of the fire service.
More chavs dragged up by chavs….they all need sterilising….
We all done stupid things when we were young just got away with it. Hope the kid is OK well done to all the emergency workers
Saw two feral scratters on the roof of the eastern esplanade public conveniences in Ryde the other day Shame one of them didn’t fall through into the grot below.
Stupid actions end up with stupid results. Stick your head in a lion’s mouth you expect to get your head bitten off walk along a roof, expect to fall off, or through. No brains some of these kids.
It takes a special class of bully to pile hateful ignorant comments on the family of an injured child.
Who hurt you, Stuart? (Sounds like it, if this is the kind of rubbish you write)
Who hurt you, Angela?
I know this may sound harsh but there was a group of kids yesterday on top of Poundland in Newport chucking stuff off the roof at people and cars, including my blind friend and assistance dog. As well as the fact they could have caused an accident by throwing things the way they were leaning over the edge was so worrying. Reported it to Poundland staff only to learn they and Police were aware and the poor staff at Poundland had had nothing but problems from them all over this week, with police doing nothing. We did ring them our selves to report it as a new incident due to my friend being blind (which the kids were aware of as we had shouted at them) the police were not interested and the kids eventually came down and taunted us.
In my day the Police and the parents would have sorted this together. A clip round the ear. Grounded for a week too.
Now many parents do not care and do nothing but bring up their kids to have no respect for others or the law.
This should however have been dealt with swiftly by the Police anyway to send out a message that it will not be tolerated, or the kids will go on causing mayhem.
That is not harsh they were putting themselves and other people at risk the police should have had a word with them. But some of the comments on here are disgusting this is a child there are some really horrible people on this island.
What were the children doing on the roof?
It’s the older kids fault this child has had this accident. If they weren’t up there, this wouldn’t have happened. Stern words for all involved including the parents!
You sad sad people, I’m sure most of you have children and grandchildren, you judge before you know the facts, hope the person that fell is OK, must have been frightening for all concerned
Another Island candidate for the Darwin awards.
Nice to see the ‘house rules’ working as well as ever. Some serious fishing posts here as they cannot be serious. Kids will be kids, they make mistakes and need to learn. Of course, the gammons on here slamming into the kids and their parents will have never put a foot wrong in their lives.
And here we are doing exactly what the kids want – to gain ‘street cred’ by getting their antics glorified in the media. In our day silly kids doing silly things wasn’t news and only their immediate circle heard about it. Stop blowing molehills into mountains and the kids will soon grow up.
People forget they were young once, kids are kids and get up to mischief, I did. Plus there are horrible comments about the parents and kids, it’s very sad and disrespectful.
Theres nothing down east cows for the kids to do part from parks but when the holiday people come across that take up the parks then thay got nothing at all thay need something for them to do that building thay built by the library is mainly for the old not for the young sandown and shanklin ryde got arcades n stuff like that but not all kids can get to that points all the time some as Newport kids thay got nothing like that because all the good things are being built where where the hotels are it’s not fair for the island kids it’s all because of greed it’s so sad life got this bad n it’s going to get much more worse n death
