A car that has overturned between Newport and Yarmouth has prompted a response from emergency services this morning (Wednesday).
The incident has occurred on Yarmouth Road near to Vittlefields on the main road heading West from Newport.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised several appliances and the Response Support Vehicle to the scene.
The incident is thought to have occurred shortly before 1110.
The road has been closed in both directions between Betty Haunt Lane and Elm Lane.
UPDATE @ 12:05 – The driver of a Ford pickup have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
It’s understood that the driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of hitting an oil slick on the S bends.
Recovery of the wreckage has been arranged but the road remains closed in both directions at this time.
Southern Vectis’ Route 7 bus is currently delayed as a result of the incident.
UPDATE @ 14:58 – The road has now reopened with Southern Vectis Route 7 buses returning to a normal service.

Must have been peddle to the metal…
If you are going to post inaccurate facts at least spell check your comment. The picture clearly shows oil or another contaminant on the road. Moron.
He’s peddling inaccurate information
Spell check wouldn’t have explained to this person the difference between pedal and peddle. That only comes from education in the English language.
Is this the actual Sheila Ferguson from the 1970s line-up of The Three Degrees? We need to know.
Dyslexic !!
I agree eating disorder.
I went through just as the emergency services arrived. You can see and smell diesel on both sides of the carriageway, I would guess in excess of a mile in length, so not surprising that combined with the wet road surface that the road was very slippery.
As the diesel was on both sides of the road, something has gone up and down there dumping diesel as it goes, possibly an agricultural vehicle?
Once the accident is cleared, they will have to clear the diesel somehow, not sure if that’s possible?
I guess most people haven’t experienced oil/diesel on wet road, it’s actually more dangerous than ice as can’t often be seen and spread easily You only need a cup full for it to be dangerous . Remember a few years back on racecourse roundabout – 1 no 2, no 3,no 4 probably over a dozen went straight across towards Ryde from East Cowes as unable to go round left because diesel on road
I found this out myself several years ago, turning left at the lights at Yarbridge, into Marshcombe Shute, I barely made the corner, and my ABS went mental. I went back over the lights after picking someone up, to go to work, and a scooter had since slid off. Turned out to be a bus that caused it. I know that Bikers are susceptible to diesel, after a prolonged dry spell – The ran brings it out apparently – but a 4×4 (Presumably) Pick up ??
That is more likely to be a diesel spillage you can see in the road than oil. Probably another Vectis bus with an improperly fastened fuel cap. They constantly leave a trail of diesel around roundabouts making conditions extremely dangerous, especially for motorcycles and cyclists. Must cost them a small fortune in wasted diesel.
I think it was probably banana skins.
‘Probably’ a Vectis bus with an improperly fastened fuel cap? Blige, that’s a bit of a giant leap of assumption based on available evidence and the number of non-Vectis diesel vehicles using the road, is it not, Paul?
Another islander driving to fast
So why was this driver the only one to crash???….nothing to do with speed I don’t suppose, more idiots will be along very soon….
There is only one idiot on this forum.
How is your new life going?
All the best!
My new life is very much safer than you lot over there, however, many thanks for your kind words..
Hi I’m coming your way soon I will be mr Lymington.
As a life long motorcyclist I can tell you, most of these oil slicks come from farm machinery being driven on the roads. Seen it so many times with my own eyes. But farmers think they are a minority and exempt from the law.
Ford Pickup, oil slick? Yeah right
Market for reinforced roof racks I believe.
Love this bit of road can normally get a ton plus out of my motor on here no probs Now I know there may be oil slicks here I will slow down to 70mph.
Saw a motor like this overtake me earlier today.Must have been speeding as I was doing 70 and felt like I was in reverse.Slow down you Muppet before somebody gets injured.
