2 vehicles have been involved in a road traffic collision on the junction of Mill Hill Road and Belle Vue Road in Cowes tonight (Friday), which has resulted in serious damage to a Renault Clio.
Emergency services are currently on scene in the town including an appliance from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and local Police.
The driver of the Renault Clio involved in the smash has been able to exit the vehicle with assistance from members of the public. He has escaped any life-threatening injuries.
The second car – also a Renault – has sustained damage. It is thought the vehicle was parked when it was crashed into.
Road closures are in place locally as a result of the crash, which occurred shortly before 21:30.

ANOTHER SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON THE ISLAND THANK GOD FOR OUR EMERGANCY SERVICES AND THE STAFF AT ST MARYS HOSPITAL
What ever the cause of this incident, there is far to much being reported on Island roads. I have seen some terrible driving in recent weeks and I have witnessed on many occasions drivers totally ignoring speed limits and I mean way over the limit. People are being injured and people are dying.
It’s not only the young who are acting in an appalling way.
We all know the police are over stretched and we all know the favourite spots for the mobile speed camera.
None of us are perfect drivers, but there are quite a few who believe they can do what they like when they like, and the vast majority of the time they get away with it.
The islands always been like the Wild West, don’t like it move back to the nanny state over the water
How much glue do you sniff?
Idiot
Totally agree with what you say . As for people “ignoring” the speed limit I find it an absolute joke as no one seems to stick to the new 30 mph speed limit on dual carriageway in Newport. Get fed up of constantly being overtaken by people totally ignorant of the speed limit. Not even sure if they realise !!!! Very surprised Police don’t do speed checks there occasionally just to slow people down. If you drive down Newport High Street at 60 mph you would be stopped. But 60 in a 30 limit on Dual carriage way is ignored. Why ????
The Police refused to respond to the two car crash outside of Northwood Cemetery earlier (5:30pm ?)…………when the female driver of the ‘offending’ car FLED the scene !! (both cars are probably write-offs)
when u get idiots using the island roads as a racetrack most nights Saturday nights usualy , in their turboed prams what do you expect the sandown broadway is a favorite road . it can ,and will end in a serious accident ,then the snowflakes will appear on here saying sadley missed etc ,when thease muppetts are out they behave very differently ,indifferent to the pain and suffering they cause ,and leave behind
The parked car must of jumped out
More bad driving on the I o w
Spot on Philip
More useless comments on the IoW from Phil and Ben.
We are seeing more and more accidents on the island why ???
More and more cars
Watch your backs when out on the Island roads, it’s becoming an epidemic, far too many incidents…
Phil, over to the master of accident causes…
But seriously, the absence of police must be a factor i.e. some people know they can drive like maniacs with almost no chance of being accountable for the consequences
Is anyone collating information about these accidents? Are there any common issues of age, experience, locations etc because we have already had at least one fatality this year and with the amount of accidents seemingly increasing at an alarming rate it is only a matter of time before we see more of the same. I know that the Police have no resources or interest in road safety, except for a few press releases claiming to give a damn, but surely someone is actually looking for causality rather than giving the standard ‘shoulder shrug’.
A frequent visitor to the island i live in North Kent in a very busy area and don’t see continuous traffic accidents like this.I try to obey speed limits and notice that people on the island dont,it never very long before some one is close behind me,why is every one in so much of a hurry,I thought the island was a laid back kind of place
Way too many on drugs, so many smoke dope, and the chavs always hurrying to see their scattered kids, with various different muvers’.
So many growing on the Island now, adding to the ease of getting such and keeping the price low.
IF it were drunks peeps would be horrified just that those smoking don’t have a pint in their hands, so it goes far more unnoticed.
When even school teachers grow, you know it has become very bad.
I think I almost agree with aziz for once! You can’t walk far now without that familiar smell of weed wafting in the air. It’s becoming an epidemic and no one seems to bother.
Speed and driving too close to other vehicles is the main cause of accidents here.
It used to be but do many people have moved here.
since i moved to the Island i thought speed limits were advisory. For me 30 now becomes 50 and so on.
Dear Island Echo, is there a way you can stop PHIL MCCAVITY, BEN DOVER & AZ-ZAHRA-AZIZ from being able to send in their comments?? I’m sure I’m not alone in asking that. Xxx
Totally agree, Woowoo. They add nothing useful to the conversation – they just spout childish nonsense.
They speak the truth the driver is the only person in control of the car therefor it is driver error. How come hundreds of other drivers are able to drive on the island roads and not have an accident, it is because they pay attention do not speed and drive in keeping with the conditions. They are entitled to express their opinions as are everyone else.
