It is the third call out in 24 hours for HM Coastguard – they were called to Culver Down yesterday evening for a climber in difficulty and to Shankin Esplanade this afternoon after clothing was found.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – A woman – who was on the cliff edge – has been safely talked down by the Coastguard, according to Police.
She is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Well done to the professionals
Yes well done everyone, and I sincerely hope the lady gets the help she needs.
But on another note stop being so bloody selfish and think of your family and others who have to pick up the pieces!
Believe me I’ve had to do it ! Not nice
Glad im not a member of your family if you think being in such a bad place is being selfish. Hope you are never in this position and get call selfish.
Or maybe the family and friends need to stop being selfish and realise they are not the ones that came out worse. Disgusting comment
This woman was clearly very distressed and felt she had no other option.
What she needs now is support and understanding which I hope she will get.
I sincerely hope you never find yourself in a similar position.
This enforced isolation is very hard on many (most) people and they will need support, not condemnation, from those around them – especially from their families and so called friends.
Otherwise we will be seeing many more incidents like this.
Someone who is so low and can’t pick themselves up is not selfish so let’s hope your never in that position
I have been so low more times than I care to remember,, but still never resorted to such measures. Everyone has a choice, and I never had any help or support from anyone, but had to somehow find the resilience and strength from somewhere inside myself to keep going. Too many snowflakes around today who cannot cope with anything and the whole world is supposed to feel sympathy for them.
I must be one of the few who actually feel my mental health has improved from this lock down as even though there still seem to be too many people not keeping to the rules ,at least there are slightly less people around and don’t get the usual types breathing close down my neck in places like Poundland.
I can never understand why some get all the sympathy, whilst others, who may well be in far worse situations, get none.
Thank you, you amazing people
Everyone’s important to someone .. you’re all amazing
Actually, no, not everyone is important to someone, and saying that makes it worse for some who are important to no one.
People need to be important to themselves, not rely on being important to somebody else. That way lies misery.
Hope she ok and gets the appropriate care. X
congratulations to the HM coastguard and the local police officers.
