5 ‘high quality’ and ’boutique’ en-suite bed and breakfast rooms could be provided at a Yarmouth pub.
Character Inns IOW is seeking a change of use of the first and second floors of The Kings Head in Yarmouth as well as consent for associated works to deliver the accommodation.
The proposal will significantly benefit the pub enabling it to ‘continue and thrive’ for many years to come, a statement submitted by the applicant’s agent, Andrew White Planning Consultancy, says.
It follows a previous listed building consent application for internal changes within the Kings Head to create the five en-suite bedrooms, approved in December last year.
Andrew White Planning Consultancy said:
“Given the challenging nature of the hospitality industry, particularly in light of operational costs and seasonal constraints, it becomes ever more important to explore diversification opportunities.
“The same management team have seen the benefits of providing guest accommodation at their other establishments across the Island and have spotted an opportunity at The Kings Head.
“Given the availability of space above the pub, previously used as occasional staff accommodation, coupled with the popularity of Yarmouth and the proximity to cross-Solent travel via car and passenger ferries to Lymington, the applicants identified an opportunity of providing five high-quality bed and breakfast guest rooms/suites including a larger multi-room family suite.”
The Kings Head is currently closed for winter.
A post on the pub’s website said:
“We’ll be working hard behind the scenes to create stunning new boutique rooms above the pub, with plans to reopen in spring 2026”.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 25/01474/FUL finishes on 30th December and a decision is expected on 22nd January.
