A bid to build 6x 2-bedroom houses in Cowes has been met with an objection from the Isle of Wight’s highways service provider.
Island Roads is opposing Jack Reynolds’s planning application to construct 6 homes with car parking on land next to 20 and 27 Westwood Close in Cowes due to parking concerns.
The proposed housing is in a ‘sustainable location’ and close to Cowes and Gurnard’s ‘services and facilities’, according to a Planning Statement from Mr Reynolds’s agent, BCM Wilson Hill.
Island Roads’ highways representative to the council said:
“Due to inadequate visibility at the proposed parking bays, sub-standard parking bays size and proximity of the parking bays to a junction, the proposals envisaged in this application have implications affecting the highway network and therefore this office raises an objection.”
BCM Wilson Hill’s statement said:
“The proposal is for 6 dwellings designed to reflect the existing dwellings (being of the same height, fenestrations and using the same colour palette and materials).
“The layout of the dwellings will be arranged in a simple terrace of four properties, with a further pair of semi-detached dwellings, following the general building line of the existing properties.
“The proposal will allow for modest gardens to the rear with open frontage and low-level boundary treatments, again, following the same context of the original area layout and design.
“The scheme is considered acceptable in principle as the housing meets the needs of the local area with a mix of smaller family houses.”
County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01013/FUL ends on 8th September and a decision is due on 29th September.

Parking concerns
Lol
The island is full of parking concerns
Take for example Regent Street in Shanklin, numpties park on
both sides of the street and on pavements, not to mention
vehicles that evade parking charges by parking on the pavement
outside the old tourist information centre opposite Sandown Pier
inside a clearly signed pedestrianised zone!
Lol
The island authorities don’t have a clue about parking, they
are quick to slap tickets on genuine motorists who may go over
their allocated time by a few minutes
yet they do nothing about vehicles evading parking charges in
Sandown or vehicles causing problems in Regent Street Shanklin
by parking on Pavements and Double Yellow Lines etc!
Roll on devolution, we need brains running the show, not brawn!
Be careful what you wish for. Devolution will add to our problems.
