A ‘totally damp’ building ‘full of rotten timber’ off an Isle of Wight main road could be transformed into a modern 5-bedroom house.
Mr P Ashton is asking County Hall for planning permission to demolish his existing house, Pine Villa, south of Forest Road, and build a new one himself.
Pine Villa (see below) is described by his agent, the Andrew White Planning Consultancy, as exhibiting ‘structural failure’.
But Mr Ashton’s self-build replacement home would be built with ‘high-quality’ and ‘durable’ materials, including ridge cut, grey stone panels.
The consultancy said:
“The (existing) building is totally damp, full of rotten timber and exhibiting structural failure. Replacing the existing structure provides significant sustainability benefits when compared with retrofitting the deteriorating original building.
“A new-build enables the incorporation of modern insulation, energy-efficient glazing, airtightness and contemporary construction standards.
“The ground floor accommodation includes a siting room, kitchen/diner, utility room, w.c/shower, home office and hallway.
“The first floor and attic space would include five bedrooms (one en-suite) and 2 bathrooms.”
County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01688/FUL finishes on 7th January and a decision is expected on 28th January.
