The Phoenix Choir launched themselves into the first of a full programme of live concerts for 2022 at East Cowes Town Hall on Saturday (2nd April).
The concert was a joyous occasion, sang to a near capacity audience, after a 2-year hiatus of live performances.
Phoenix Choir’s Musical Director, Robin Burnett, had kept his choristers well-rehearsed and had added new material for their repertoire during their 2-year break from performing.
On Saturday evening, the choir not only gave renditions of old favourites such as You’re My World, My Heart Will Go On, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight, but also showcased songs new to the choir’s repertoire such as Fields of Gold, Isn’t She Lovely, and Sunrise, Sunset.
The soloists were: Ian Attrill with Some Broken Hearts Never Mend, Jan Merwood with The Flower that Shattered the Stone, Paul Stevens with Gloria – The Gift of Life, and Elizabeth Habens, who sang the song the choir dedicated to the people of Ukraine, In My Fantasy.
An appreciative audience at the town hall raised £800 for The East Cowes Methodist Church Organ Fund.
The Phoenix Choir’s next concert will be at Holy Trinity Church, Bembridge at 19:30 on Saturday 7th May.
