SONY DSCWightlink Islanders’ number one, Tom Perry, has been ruled out of today’s (Sunday) National League Pairs Championship meeting at Mildenhall through injury with Darryl Ritchings having now been called up to take his place to partner club skipper Ben Hopwood.

Riding for Premier League side Somerset at Rye House (near Hoddesdon, Herts) on Friday, Tom was involved in a nasty Heat 2 crash that resulted in both him and Rebels’ team mate Lewis Rose being rushed to hospital by ambulance, Tom having sustained a suspected broken shoulder and Rose diagnosed by the paramedics as possibly having broken his hip.

Whilst there has been no update from the hospital as to the full extent of his team mate’s injuries, there’s been some encouraging news received in the last few minutes in respect of the popular 20-year-old Isle of Wight No.1 Tom.

X-rays have revealed that no bones have been broken but he’s suffered quite a lot of tissue damage and severe bruising to his shoulder and that means he won’t be fit to ride in tonight’s match much as, being a speedway rider, he might want to.

Consequently Darryl Ritchings has been called up to replace him and must be relishing the opportunity to do so having been our second highest scorer at West Row in the National League match there last Sunday.
