Reform UK, Labour and the Local Conservatives are seeking to take over from Pan and Barton’s Isle of Wight councillor Geoff Brodie.
Reform UK’s Martin John Bower, Stephen John Reading of the Labour Party and Brian George Tyndall from the Local Conservatives have entered the race for the seat.
Cllr Brodie has represented the ward since 2005 and is stepping down.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service contacted candidates for 100-word pitches either directly or through parties or groups ahead of the May 7 Isle of Wight elections.
Here’s what they had to say, in no particular order…
Martin John Bower (no photo supplied)
Following careers in Excise and Customs and the Royal Mail, I returned home to the Island in 2020 to be closer to friends and relatives. I live on Pan Estate and have had links to this ward all my life.
I know too well the problems that our ward faces with anti-social behaviour, but I also know that we have a great community here that deserves a fair and robust representative in County Hall.
If I am elected as your councillor I will act with honesty and integrity and ensure that the views and concerns of the residents of Pan and Barton are listened to and acted upon.
Stephen John Reading
Steve Reading raised his family in Newport and his grandchildren attend Barton school. Steve does a variety of volunteer work, including at the Apollo Theatre where he lends skills built through a lifetime in business.
Skills previously utilised advising Island businesses, and helping Island schools navigate the challenges of austerity, Steve will now use as your councillor for Pan and Barton.
As Steve says: “As a small business adviser, I worked with Island businesses, helping them start, develop and grow. I’m looking forward to working with local people and businesses, to help make our community a place to be proud of.”
Brian George Tyndall
