Bembridge RNLI came to the aid of a stricken paddleboarder and kayaker who were caught in blustery conditions yesterday (Saturday).
At around 12:25, Bembridge RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard following reports from a member of the public that 2 people had been spotted holding onto one of the channel buoys leading into Bembridge Harbour.
Battling strong Force 7 gusting 8 winds and a rough sea state, the crew arrived on scene to find one person on a paddleboard and another on an inflatable kayak, both unable to make headway in the challenging conditions and clinging to the buoy to avoid being blown out to sea.
Both casualties were safely brought aboard the lifeboat, checked over, and found to be unharmed.
After deflating the paddleboard, they were taken ashore at St Helens Old Church and met by Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team at 13:06.

They went out in that weather?
Should have left them, idiots.
Only stupid numpties would go out to sea in such conditions
even the Hovercraft stopped running.
Personally I would have left them, why should the poor
RNLI risk their lives rescuing stupid inconsiderate numpties.
These people should be fined heavily and forced to give a
large donation to the RNLI.
There are some right Idiots in this world.
What part of the weather conditions over the weekend made these people think that it was a good idea to go paddle boarding and kayaking? Idiots who put the lives of the responders at risk for no good reason. They should be fined heavily for their short sighted behaviour.
Why were they putting the lifeguards at risk? Selfish idiots!
Another pair of stupid people who didn’t pay any attention to the weather forecast.
Should we let natural selection take its course?
What’s up, has everyone gone to sleepy bo bo’s?
Did they not see or hear the weather forecast. Every time you think about venturing out to sea, either in a boat, kayak, paddleboard etc, not only should you check weather conditions, but also the state of tides, which were incidentally quite big (spring) over the weekend which would have made conditions even worse. Anyway, its a good job the RNLI were able to assist and we should have nothing but praise for these guys who are ready for whatever emergency in all weathers as they put their lives on the line for others.
Clearly no respect for Mother Nature, You can’t educate stupid!
