Passengers on board a Route 3 bus have escaped injury following a crash in Ryde, in which a car has smashed into the side of the double decker.
The incident has occurred on the junction of George Street and Melville Street and has resulted in the bus’ door being shattered, spreading glass across the carriageway.
A Ford C-Max – displaying P plates indicating a new driver is behind the wheel – has sustained significant front end damage.
Police are now in attendance having been alerted to the 2-vehicle crash at around 22:20.
The upper section of George Street is currently blocked in both directions whilst recovery takes place.
Southern Vectis says the 22:15 Route 3 from has been withdrawn. The service will recommence from Shanklin at 22:50.
UPDATE @ 23:15 – The bus has now been driven away by fitters and recovery of the Ford is being arranged.
The road has now reopened.

Maybe a Re-test is the answer or a trip to Specsavers
How does one miss a Double Decker Bus!
The mind Boggles
Bit like your bad work how can you not be able to build a wall Paul
Nothing wrong with my workmanship.
Anytime you need some decent work done, you know who to call.
Things that hang from rear view mirrors.
Yes I’m sure you can hide a bus behind that.
But he didn’t miss it. He hit it.lol
He didn’t!! He hit it didn’t he 😉
Specsavers visit needed!
To be fair busses are difficult to see
really……
How come it’s “ACCIDENT” INVOLVING BIKE CAUSES TRAFFIC DELAYS ON OUTSKIRTS OF SANDOWN sometimes and “smashes” others?
Seems a little bizarre
Rule number 1. Don’t dangle items off the mirror. That can fail your cars mot. Dangerous.ok let’s have it.
what are you on
I bet your old bang is full of dice dangling down.
Obviously couldn’t see a huge bus behind a tiny air freshener.
Yep you as well have the dice hanging of your mirror. In your old banger.
I assume the ‘P‘ is for Pratt, Plonker, or Pathetic
really don’t understand these P plates
if you’ve passed your test, you should be able to drive safely
if you can’t drive safely, you shouldn’t have passed your test
if you’re so nervous when driving that you need a sign to warn other road users, perhaps you shouldn’t be driving.
The P stand for Patience Please. Only intolerant, nasty people don’t know that .
Have you ever started to pass a bus before it indicates, and the bus starts to move off??….Bloody dangerous, you just never know when they are going to course a collision..
Not saying this has any bearing to this incident but generally when you learn to drive and take your driving test they are in the daytime. You don’t get experience of driving at night or especially in the wet at night until you have passed your driving test.
True but its not difficult. This is in the middle of town in a well lit area. I’d say looking at the damage the bus came up George Street and the car failed to give way. Just a guess mind.
astute observation – as the passenger door of the bus is on the kerbside, it can only have been impacted by a car exiting melville street into cross street. Clearly the driver of the car wasn’t paying attention.
Tbh the c-max A-pillar does have a large blindspot, I nearly rear ended a 44ton artic because of it
Women who have recently passed their test’s are deadly
I have noticed most accidents involved women drivers, on the island anyway….
Your powers of observation must be appalling.
Women who have passed their test years ago can be deadly towards unintelligent male bigots.
Whaaat the!!! So funny, big hard bxxxxxds hiding behind false names slagging off women drivers on here. I bet they hide behind their wives skirts out in the real world, get their clothes bought for them and agree with everything without any interaction.
Most of the accidents on here are with dickhead men drivers involved
How can you not see a bus for god sake, mind boggles
I saw that driver of said car earlier on in the day at Newport Bus Station nearly causing an accident
