Anyone living or visiting the Island over the age of 50 is being invited to join, inform and shape the direction of an ambitious and exciting project to make the Isle of Wight a great place to grow old.
The initial Isle Engage meeting will be held at Newport Riverside Centre at 16:30 on Wednesday 25th November and is open to all Islanders over the age of 50.
This is a chance to for Islanders to have their voices heard, share what matters to them and help shape and direct the creation of an Age Friendly Island.
Age Friendly Island is an exciting new partnership that sits at the heart of a BIG Lottery funded project to reduce social isolation and help create inclusive and accessible environments for those over the age of 50. This project, with confirmed funding of £5.7 million over 5 years, offers a real chance to make the Isle of Wight a great place to grow old, now and for future generations.
Lauren Turner, Age Friendly Community Development Officer, said:
“Our vision for an Age Friendly Island is one where the needs and aspirations of older people are included at every level and incorporated into all aspects of Island life.
“However, the project needs the support of the local community to help make our vision a reality. We hope that as many people as possible can join us on the 25th November and become part of our exciting journey towards creating an Age Friendly Island.”
Light refreshments and buffet will be provided and transport can be arranged to the meeting for those with mobility issues. For transport requests, or more information on the Age Friendly Island project, please contact Age UK Isle of Wight on 01983 525282 and ask for Jess or Lauren, or email: [email protected].
