No arrests have yet been made after an assault in Ryde earlier this morning (Saturday) saw a man taken to St Mary’s Hospital and a cordon erected in the heart of the town.
As previously reported by Island Echo, officers responded to the scene on Union Street at 01:28 after a man was assaulted it what was described as a ‘melee’.
A 31-year-old man was injured in the incident and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
In order to conduct investigations, Police had to close the road to traffic, erecting a cordon between Sam’s Chicken and Biscoes.
Blood was visible on the road within the cordon.
Southern Vectis route 9 buses did have to divert this morning, but the road has since reopened.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the incident and investigations remain ongoing.

Shops would definitely have CCTV but the police don’t like doing any investigation. Last time I went to the police about a car being stolen, which I witnessed, I mentioned a few places opposite which might have CCTV. The police asked me to go and check…
