Police have cordoned off a section of Union Street in Ryde this morning (Saturday) following a serious assault involving multiple people during the early hours.
Officers responded to the busy centre of nightlife sometime before 01:45 after receiving reports of a melee involving a group of people.
As a result, a crime scene has been established forcing the closure of Union Street to all traffic, with pedestrians also unable to access the lower section of the road.
Blood can be seen in the middle of the carriageway.
Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances of the incident. It remains unclear at this early stage if any arrests have been made.
It’s understood that the road is likely to remain closed for several hours which will cause disruption in the town on what is traditionally a busy shopping day. Buses will also be on diversion.
Police have closed the road outside French Franks, but pedestrians can access as far down as Sam’s Chicken where an inner cordon is present.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement.

Superman called to the scene on union street last night after wizards are thought to be responsible for the heinous scene after being seen fleeing on broom sticks. It is thought that wands and spell books were involved. These men are thought to be dangerous as they have had specialist training from Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Batman is now on the scene and Saul Goodman is investigating.

Best thing to happen to Ryde would be to make it the gateway to the island by knocking it all down and having it as the entrance to the tunnel
